All fur babies have their own story on how they landed their forever homes. Some don’t always start out pretty but turn out to be something beautiful in the end.
Our sweet Hammy and Brody come from a puppy mill rescue. Puppy mills are establishments that breed puppies for sale under inhumane conditions. Puppies from these mills are terribly abus ed, mistreated, and unhappy. When we found our fur babies, we immediately knew that we wanted to become their fur-ever home and show them a true and unconditional love.
Hammy endured a lot before welcoming him into our home. After leaving these mills, he flew on an airplane as a little puppy in order to join our family, all the way from the Midwest.
Because of all of these harsh conditions, he was a very scared, nervous, and a hesitant puppy, but quickly learned how it felt to be unconditionally loved!
When we first got him, his name was originally Aaron, named after the Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers. After some time of having him and learning his personality, it became clear that this name wasn’t the right fit. He was really a Ham, and from that, we decided to name him Hammy.
My daughter, Cori, was Hammy’s original owner, but because Cori was young and busy, Hammy became mine! Because I watched him often, it wasn’t hard for me to immediately fall in love with him.
Growing such a relationship with Hammy is actually the reason that I got Brody! I would get so sad when Hammy went back to Cori and knew that I needed my own fur baby.
When I first met Brody, it was love at first sight. He was a precious escape artist who often enjoyed swimming in the toilet – how could I not fall in love with such a personality?!
Now, a little bit about me – Patti!
I had had other dogs growing up, that belonged to my mother, but never had my own dog. It wasn’t until Hammy, and Brody came into my life that I realized how wonderful dogs are! They truly complete me. I love nothing more than caring for them – they are genuinely my passion.
So, how did all of this turn into our amazing social media adventure that is now @hammyandbrody?
Our Instagram account started out as a personal account to simply share Hammy’s adventures. In the early days of the account, I had posted a photo of Hammy, and it received 5,000 likes. In that moment that I was bitten by the Instagram bug.
I love chronicling our days together, particularly in the summer and during the holidays. The summer holds Hammy’s birthday and a few holidays. We even get to extend our Christmas fun into January, celebrating Brody.
We are so lucky to have amazing internet friends to participate in the parties and giveaways we choose to host. We want to give back during these times of the year, and these parties and giveaways are one of our favorite ways to do that.
Over some time now, we have become known as the “party” dogs, because we will take any and every reason to throw a party (even if it is just virtual)! Our internet furiends make sharing our lives feel like a party every day, and we love that we get to share our adventures in this way.
We hope to continue building Hammy and Brody as time goes on and welcoming other people to follow along on our adventures. They have come such a long way from where they both started, and truly believe they deserve an eternal amount of love and happiness!
